Workshops coming up; paperwork deadline approaching
Pageantry at IU student organization is currently accepting paperwork for the 2025 Miss IU competition, which will take place Sunday, Feb. 9 at Willkie Auditorium. Full-time IU-Bloomington students are eligible to compete for a share of $4,000 in scholarships. Always entertaining, the competition will be open to the public and free of charge.
The deadline for submitting required paperwork is 11:59 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. Detailed explanations of the competition and its requirements are on our requirements page.

Early the following week Pageantry at IU will post this year’s delegates on Instagram. Friends, family and the public are invited to vote for their favorite candidate in our People’s Choice competition. Watch for updates and access to voting prior to Feb. 9
To help them prepare, prospective delegates are invited to attend free workshops, also hosted by Pageantry at IU. The first workshop will be Sunday, Jan. 26 with the second workshop being Sunday, Feb. 2. Both will take place at Fine Arts 015 from 2-5 p.m. Workshop participants will have opportunities to ask questions; get help with their paperwork; practice on-stage walking patterns; participate in mock interviews and on-stage questions; and receive general advice regarding wardrobe and talent preparation.
As an official preliminary to Miss Indiana and Miss America, the on-stage phases of competition include talent, on-stage interview, fitness, and evening wear. Off stage, delegates will have a 10-minute private interview with the judging panel the morning of the competition.
Pageantry at IU is proud to be the only Miss Indiana local competition produced by a student organization. This annual event would not be possible without generous support from the IU Foundation, IUSF’s Metz Grant, the Kiwanis Club of Bloomington, plus several local businesses.
Kat Nagler crowned Miss IU 2024
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA – Sunday evening, Feb. 18, Kat Nagler, a 20-year-old from Lafayette, Indiana, was chosen as the Miss Indiana University. Pageantry at IU student organization produced the competition, which featured 14 contestants and awarded over $4,000 in scholarships.
After being selected, Nagler shared her excitement about winning the Miss Indiana University title: “Thank you to everyone who has and will support me throughout my year of service. I’m so excited to represent IU at Miss Indiana this June!”
As Miss IU 2024, Nagler received a $1,500 scholarship from the IU Foundation and the opportunity to compete for Miss Indiana in Zionsville, Indiana, June 26-29, 2024.
Currently a second-year student, Nagler is majoring in Information Systems in the Kelley School of Business. She is also a coxswain on the Indiana University Rowing Team.
During her year as Miss IU, Nagler will advocate for her social impact initiative, which is the Indiana Special Olympics. Nagler plans to get Bloomington and the IU campus more involved with the Special Olympics of Indiana. She is eager to make appearances to promote the opportunities and experiences that Special Olympic of Indiana has to offer, she said.
Hannah Oelschlager, president of Pageantry at IU, commented on the new Miss IU. “I am very proud of Kat. I know she will be a fantastic Miss Indiana University 2024. Her Community Service Initiative will be extremely impactful for Bloomington and Indiana University. I am eager to see all she does with her title this year.” Oelschlager said.
A number of other contestants received scholarship awards during the competition, including 1st runner up ($1,000), Emily Axsom, from Bloomington, IN; 2nd runner up ($500), Saeha Jang, from Seoul, South Korea; Community Service Award ($250), Victoria Topalov, from Fort Wayne, IN: Talent Award (winning $250), Anaya Lazaro, from Crown Point, IN; Interview Award ($250), Emily Axsom, from Bloomington, IN, who also received the Forever Miss IU Legacy Award ($250 provided by former Miss IUs). The People’s Choice Award ($100) went to Nicole Jackson, from Terre Haute, IN.
Major sponsors of the Miss IU competition include the IU Foundation, which provided $3,000 in scholarships, and the IU Funding Board, which provided a $ 2,400 grant to underwrite the costs of the event. The Kiwanis Club of Bloomington sponsored the crown and sash for Miss IU.
The Miss Indiana University Scholarship Competition is a local Miss America competition and serves as a qualifier for the Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant.
Miss America Opportunity offers academic and community-based scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies for the women of the Miss America program, whose mission is to empower women through career resources and scholarships. Participation in the Miss America program provides women with access to a cadre of scholarship opportunities from women in medicine, women in business, women in STEM, social impact initiatives, the arts, and more.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Each year, the Miss America Organization awards more than $5 million in scholarships.
